Great Sankey High School’s Year 9 students are embarking on an incredible creative journey as part of The Greatest City in the World project. This unique initiative, run by the Liverpool Empire Creative Learning team, offers students the chance to explore their musical talents and gain valuable experience in the performing arts, culminating in a live performance on the main stage of the iconic Liverpool Empire Theatre.

The project is designed to ignite a passion for music and creativity, giving young people a platform to explore innovative ways of composing and performing. In their initial workshop, students delved into the art of music composition by experimenting with body percussion, traditional instruments, and modern music technology. Working collaboratively, they began crafting their own rhythms and melodies, with the guidance of professional facilitators from the Liverpool Empire Creative Learning team.

For many students, this project represents an exciting and rare opportunity to develop their confidence, teamwork, and musical skills while working in a professional creative environment. Performing on the main stage of the Liverpool Empire Theatre is an experience most aspiring performers can only dream of. This historic venue has hosted countless legendary productions and is a fitting stage for these talented students to showcase their hard work.

The performance, scheduled for April, will bring together students from schools across the region to celebrate creativity, culture, and the vibrancy of Liverpool – a city renowned for its musical heritage. Parents, staff, and the wider school community will be invited to attend the performance and witness the incredible talent of the students involved.

Participation in projects like this reflects the school’s commitment to providing enriching opportunities beyond the classroom, helping students to develop skills that will benefit them for life. It is a chance for students to take centre stage, both figuratively and literally, and experience the thrill of live performance in a professional setting.

We are immensely proud of our Year 9 students and cannot wait to see their final composition come to life at the Liverpool Empire Theatre. This is just the beginning of what promises to be an unforgettable journey for all involved.
